Langkawi, 12th December 2021 – Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) in collaboration with Tough Gorilla Ventures had organised Langkawi Swimming Festival 2021 (LSF) at Tanjung Rhu Beach Langkawi. Organised for the second time after its first edition in 2019, this tourism event is hoped to have uplifted Langkawi’s image as a safe tourism destination, apart from also highlighting the island as the main hub of Malaysia’s water sports event organising.

“The implementation of this event provides positive indicator that Langkawi waters is safe and suitable for swimming, either for sports or family holiday activities. We are convinced that such sports activity could attract tourists to continue visiting this island. LADA will be persistent in conducting various activities to revive the organising of sports events in Langkawi,” said YBrs. Tuan Wan Kamarul Faisal bin Wan Kamardin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Planning & Development) of LADA.

Four categories of swimming distance had been contended in this edition of LSF – 2 km, 4 km, and 8 km, along with a 400 meter-distance category for children. The latter was introduced to encourage the youngsters’ participation in open water swimming (OWS) activity. Overall, 480 participants had registered for this event with two of them coming from the neighbouring country, i.e. Singapore. This event was also participated by two swimmers with disabilities from Selangor named Jeff Wong and Faiq Adnan.
