Langkawi, 13th December 2021 – LADA had conveyed New Economic Project (PEB) business support incentive to local communities of the island under Langkawi Economy Roadmap Plan (HELANG). The agency’s collaboration with DXN Agrotech Sdn. Bhd. had established new economic opportunities through freshwater lobster (LAT) breeding and oyster mushroom cultivation projects. Such incentive is created to help the community by alleviating their burdens and guiding them in generating side income.

A total of 29 participants had received business support in the form of freshwater lobster breeding sets worth RM2,000.00 each. Every participant would be given a set comprising a breeding pond, an air pump, and 500 freshwater lobster seedlings. Meanwhile, 11 mushroom cultivation houses and 4,000 units of oyster mushroom spawn blocks were handed to 18 recipients and two religious institutions in Langkawi namely Maahad Tahfiz Darul Amar and Pusat Pengajian Tarbiyatul Auladiyah.

YBrs. Tuan Nasaruddin bin Abdul Muttalib, Chief Executive Officer of LADA mentioned that this initiative has been implemented since 1st July 2020 through oyster mushroom cultivation project. “Until December 2021, this project has so far produced 1,173 kilograms of harvest and generated a total of RM15,245.00 sales revenue. For freshwater lobster breeding project which commenced on 4th March 2021, we are estimating that RM5,600.00 worth of income could be generated for the first harvest. This could be expected when the lobsters reach sizes at maturity between six to eight inches each, with an average weight of 56 kilograms per pond. Based on the outcomes and feedbacks received concerning these two projects, LADA has therefore agreed that this incentive should be further intensified through a support contribution worth RM136,400.00 for this time around,” said the CEO.

To ensure all entrepreneurs could start off their businesses with the right basic knowledge and skills, DXN Agrotech Sdn. Bhd. will be assisting the participants by providing training and guidance throughout the term of this programme. May small entrepreneurs in Langkawi continue to persevere and one day succeed in expanding their businesses at international level.
