SWCorp Kedah, through its Langkawi branch, participated in the “Beach Clean-Up and Waste Management” program organized by AIESEC at Pantai Nelayan Pasir Hitam, Langkawi. The event saw the participation of 60 students and 8 teachers from SKJ© Min Nam and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bayas.
Activities included public awareness briefings on the 3R practices (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), collection of recyclable materials along Teluk Yu Fisherman’s Beach, and a waste audit.
Key criteria such as the weight of collected recyclables, commitment, initiative, and innovation by the school community in encouraging student participation in 3R activities, and the creation of recycled products from used materials were highlighted. The objectives were:
1. Providing a platform for schools to lead 3R practices within the community.
2. Educating students to value solid waste as an economic resource.
3. Instilling a culture of environmental cleanliness through 3R practices among students.
This program indirectly exposed students to 3R practices and environmental conservation issues.
