Langkawi, 17th June 2021 – Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) had carried out the Food Essentials Contribution Programme for Langkawi community impacted by COVID-19 pandemic. This programme is part of LADA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards the locals, particularly implemented throughout the recently government-announced Movement Control Order (MCO) 3.0.
The objectives of this programme are to support the locals and help relieve their burden due to the COVID-19 outbreak that has severely crippled the island’s once glorious tourism sector. Particularly hit hard are the self-working groups, which include tourism industry activists, taxi drivers, hotel employees, tourist guides, and homestay as well as business operators. These groups are obliged to cease their operations and services in compliance with the MCO SOPs and subsequently curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The initiative which is also known as Bakul Prihatin Programme is carried out in weekly basis starting from 6th June 2021. A total contribution of RM30,000.00 had and will be delivered to 12 organisations in Langkawi. During the first two (2) weeks of MCO 3.0, RM13,500.00-worth daily necessities contribution had already been delivered by YBrs. Tuan Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib, LADA Chief Executive Officer to five (5) organisations, namely the Langkawi Tourist Guide Association (LTGA), Persatuan Tuan Empunya dan Pemandu Kereta Sewa Langkawi (Langkawi Rental Car Owners and Drivers Association), Langkawi Homestay Association, Koperasi Pengusaha-pengusaha Kereta Sewa (Rental Car Operators’ Co-operative Society), and Islamic Welfare Association Malaysia (PERKIM) Langkawi Branch. Until now, the delivered contribution has managed to support about 270 tourism sector operators who have lost their permanent jobs.
LADA is always prepared to provide support and establish collaboration with any agencies or organisations for the benefit of Langkawi community, particularly during these tumultuous times.
