For this week’s IGSC, the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) hosted 30 alumnus from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) who participated in our weekly clean-up programme at Pantai Teluk Mempelam on Langgun Island. The group collected approximately 150 kg of marine debris along the beach and managed to tidy up the camping site that was previously abandoned during the lockdown period. Being an important geological site, Teluk Mempelam will soon undergo several maintenance projects in order to ensure the area is accessible to visitors and campers to enjoy the natural and geological wonders of the island. The participants were given a briefing on the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark beforehand.

Special thanks to the team from Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) for supporting LADA’s effort as the custodian of UNESCO Global Geopark in Langkawi to reduce the amount of floating rubbish found in the waters of our beloved island. This programme aims to preserve and promote the beauty of the island so it remains beautiful for the comfort of tourists and local residents.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved!
Come and join us to clean up our island.

The more the merrier!
