Langkawi, 10th October 2021 – Langkawi Great Sale 2021 Campaign had been launched today by Kedah Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Haji Muhammad Sanusi bin Md Nor and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC), YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy binti Shukri.

This campaign involves business premises from three (3) categories namely duty-free shops as well as tourism agencies and products. Its main objective is to expand business network and boost takings of tourism packages through online promotion and marketing via a special platform known as Market Place.

“We’re now offering a new added value through the introduction of Market Place. This e-commerce platform is a new marketing space which allows tourism industry activists to market their products online at greatsale.naturallylangkawi.my portal. This platform is expected to be utilised by 360,000 tourists for booking of various tourism packages available in Langkawi. Aside from recovering the island’s tourism sector, we also hope more tourism industry activists will seize this opportunity to expand their businesses through online platforms. Our aspiration is to also create a tourism sector digital community on this island,” says Chief Executive Officer of LADA, Nasaruddin bin Abdul Muttalib.

“LADA anticipates the arrival of around 400,000 tourists by the end of 2021 with the kick-off of this year’s LGS. For October alone, we look forward to see if the targeted 60,000 tourist receipts could be achieved to obtain early forecast on whether the estimated tourism income of about RM148,381,200 could be generated by the end of this year through this campaign. This is not impossible considering the possibility of nationwide state border reopening once 90 percent of Malaysia’s adult population receive complete vaccination doses as more domestic tourists will be able to visit Langkawi,” adds Nasaruddin.

“Langkawi’s tourism industry also contributes to Gross Domestic Products (GDP) for Kedah. In 2019, a total of 6.5 percent or RM1.7 billion was contributed to services sector. However, in 2020, COVID-19 pandemic had caused a 59 percent drop in the island’s tourism income value which equalled to RM0.7 billion. Therefore, to set the country’s generated income back on increasing track, the government has decided to implement Malaysia’s travel bubble pilot project via the reopening of Langkawi effective last 16th September 2021,” says Kedah Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Haji Muhammad Sanusi during the launching of LGS 2021.
