Langkawi, 6th September 2020 – The spread of COVID-19 has affected the whole world particularly tourism sector. Being one of the main tourism destinations for Malaysia, Langkawi Island is not exempted from the challenges to revive its own economic state.

Today, LADA has embarked on a strategic collaboration network with Platform Apps Sdn. Bhd. or MyCar to establish the latter as official e-hailing service for LGS 2020 (Langkawi x MyCar). This partnership will help promote LGS, which in turn will further benefit the local community. The following are details of this partnership:

  • i. Offering flat rate and special promotional code to service users in conjunction with Langkawi Great Sale inclusive of Seasonal Campaign and Special Event;
  • ii. Providing ‘Pick Up and Drop Off Standee’ at each tourist attraction and tourism service centre including hotels in Langkawi and entire country to ease the process of picking up MyCar passengers;
  • iii. Conducting cross-marketing including provision of car wrap installation for MyCar drivers as well as promoting LGS on all media platforms; and
  • iv. Encouraging pictorial and video shooting activities for the purpose of promotion at any tourist attraction in Langkawi.

LADA’s commitment in ensuring the success of this strategic collaboration is detailed as follows:

  • i. Providing spaces at selected tourist attractions for the purpose of promoting MyCar service in the forms of passenger pick up signboards, bunting, flyers, and posters at locations under management of LADA;
  • ii. Establishing marketing collaboration by giving permission to use both parties’ brands for the promotional campaign;
  • iii. Becoming MyCar’s strategic partner whereby the collaboration established would provide both parties with fair share of income generated; and
  • iv. Organising a briefing session related to Langkawi Great Sale and imparting the latest tourism trends to MyCar drivers to be shared with tourists using MyCar service in Langkawi. The first briefing session is estimated to be held on 22nd September 2020.

LADA is optimistic that the targeted amount of 2.5 million tourist arrivals into Langkawi could be achieved by the end of this year. This prediction is made based on the record of tourist arrivals until July 2020 which was close to 1.1 million. In the month alone, a total of 189,758 tourists had visited the island. If the similar amount could be maintained or around 200,000 tourists would visit each month, it is not impossible that the island’s economic state could be resuscitated soon.

May all efforts in promoting this legendary island could be sustained and receive warm attention as well as support from all parties, all for the purpose of boosting Langkawi’s tourism industry again.

-THE END-
