The Royal Patron of Geopark, Yang Teramat Mulia Dato’ Seri Diraja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz visited Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark on 17 May 2023. The visit began with a tour of the Eco Discovery Centre and Sea Cucumber Nursery at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Langkawi.
During the meeting, two presentations were given. The first one, “Road to Revalidation Langkawi UGGp 2023,” by Dr. Azmil Munif Mohd Bukhari, highlighted the progress made in meeting the revalidation criteria for the Langkawi Geopark. The revalidation process by UNESCO is scheduled to take place from June 30 to 4 July 2023. The second presentation, “Master Plan of Langkawi UGGp 2023-2027,” presented by Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Komoo, outlined the strategic plan for the Geopark’s development over the next few years.
The presence of the Royal Patron, Dato’ Seri Diraja Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz showcased the royal commitment to preserving Langkawi’s unique geological and cultural heritage. The visit provided an opportunity to witness the efforts made by Langkawi UGGp in maintaining and developing the Geopark’s natural wonders and sustainable practises.
