The Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) in partnership with Marriott Group International consisting of four major hotels in Langkawi namely The Ritz Carlton Langkawi, St. Regis Langkawi, Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah and Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa have all joined the bandwagon in incorporating the integration of environmental sustainability into their strategy and recreational business decisions that resonates deeply with the concepts and objectives of UNESCO Global Geoparks.
We aim to raise awareness about the critical importance of mangroves in supporting biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and protecting coastal ecosystems, which correlate with multiple SDGs (13,14,15 & 17).
This initiative also showcases Marriott’s sustainable initiatives in Langkawi through mangrove tree planting activities, which involve hotel guests and staff on a weekly basis. Both organisations aim to initiate this programme in late August, where guests from hotels are able to experience mangrove tree planting activities and Geopark tours at the Langkawi Geopark Discovery Centre (LGDC) in Kilim Karst Geoforest Park.
100 mangrove seedlings were planted around the centre today. LADA intends to promote and advocate for all environmentally conscious practises in the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark. Let’s work together for a better future!
