Langkawi, 10th April 2022 – Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) had received a courtesy call paid by the Malaysian Nuclear Agency (ANM) delegation which was led by YBrs. Dr. Abdul Rahim bin Harun, Deputy Director General (Research and Technology Development Programme). Through this visit, ANM had also contributed 60 kilogrammes of IS21 paddy seed to be cultivated at Laman Padi, Langkawi. Various matters were also up in discussion, including the potential collaboration that could be established between LADA and ANM in the future.
The IS21 paddy seed is formulated through mutation-induced breeding method on MR 219 paddy seed using gamma radiation technology. This seed is particularly unique based on its resistant traits against extreme weather and rice diseases, aside from its capability of increasing paddy harvest up until 40 to 67 percent.
