30 Jan 2023 – LADA had received a courtesy call by the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB). This delegation was led by Encik Mohd Khairuzamri bin M Salleh, Director General of MPIB and 14 officers. In this courtesy visit, the Director General took the opportunity to deliver a briefing on the “Potential of the Pineapple Industry on Langkawi Island” to LADA as well as propose some potential cooperation proposals between agencies to advance the agro-tourism based industry in Langkawi.

LADA was represented by Tuan Wan Kamarul Faisal bin Wan Kamardin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Planning and Development). Also present were Puan Mariam binti Tajudin and Puan Siti Norsuhada binti Che Man from the Planning Division and Puan Lina Azlina binti Zali from the Investment and Business Facilitation Division.

Among the main functions of MPIB as provided under the Pineapple Industry Act 1957 (Revised 1990) (Act 427) is to fund agronomic research and processing research programs related to the pineapple industry. Negotiating the agreements on the price and grade for pineapples sold to registered pineapple factories and others.
