Langkawi, 30th March 2022 – The Mega ‘Gotong-Royong’ Programme organised by Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) last Wednesday further brightened up the mood of LADA’s 32nd Anniversary Celebration. The programme which started as early as 8.00 a.m. was participated by 250 staff of 14 agencies and departments around Langkawi along with three LADA’s subsidiaries. The main objective of this event was to safeguard the cleanliness and sustainability of Langkawi’s natural surroundings.
“LADA is indeed grateful to have received immense support from various agencies including E-Idaman Sdn. Bhd., Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), and Langkawi District and Land Office. This communal clean-up activity involves five locations around Langkawi, namely Kuah River Bridge, Legenda Park, 1 Malaysia Restaurant near Dataran Lang (Lang Square), Chogm Park, and Tangga Helang Seribu Kenangan (Thousand Memories Eagle Stairs) at Gunung Raya, with the last one being the main location for this activity,” said YBrs. Tuan Nasaruddin bin Abdul Muttalib, Chief Executive Officer of LADA.
“We are expecting to collect 1,000 kilogrammes of rubbish today. This time, we are especially including the cleaning up of Tangga Helang Seribu Kenangan as the main highlight of this ‘gotong-royong’ to restore the beauty of the staircase, turning it into a main tourist attraction once again. We hope that this ‘gotong-royong’ would foster the love of nature in Langkawi community, in line with the island’s recognition as Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark (LUGGp). This received acknowledgement values the sustainability of nature, an important subject that we are continuously working on for this island. We also seek to transform Langkawi into the first low carbon island in the country,” he further added.
It is thus hoped that this communal work could both clean up the surroundings of Langkawi and strengthen the relationship between local agencies and community on this island.
