An official visit by the Legal Unit of the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) together with the judicial officers of the Kota Kinabalu Court was held on 29th of December 2022 at the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex. This visit was warmly welcomed by the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex personnel, who were accompanied by Puan Ummu Kalthom binti Abdul Samad, Sessions Court Judge and Puan Dayang Aidaku Amira Binti Aminuddin, Senior Assistant Court Registrar as well as the staff of the Kota Kinabalu Court, Sabah.
This official visit is a continuation of the LADA Legal Unit Action Plan and initiative to establish a network and a strategic cooperation relationship with the Legislature Agency, specifically for the sharing of information related to governance and current legal issues, as well as serving as a medium of knowledge exchange to develop current legal knowledge with the agencies.
During this visit session, the Court shared legal governance procedures with representatives of the LADA Legal Unit, involving visits to several Court workspaces including the courtroom, the Children’s Court, the Judicial Museum of Sabah and Sarawak and the place of detention of offenders.
LADA has also been given specific exposure to the application of technology and digital systems using artificial intelligence applications in managing and conducting court proceedings, which are not currently applied in the courts of Peninsular Malaysia. This technology can also assist judges and magistrates in determining the proper sentence to be imposed on the offender. In addition, this digital application is also used in trials through online hearings, digital reference of causal papers, Mobile Court and many other innovations that can be an inspiration and reference to improve the governance of the Legal Unit in particular.
Both parties are certain that this relationship and engagement should continue for mutual benefit in the future.
Hopefully, the information exchange and network that has been established will be strengthened and expanded over time.
